Research line of Child Psychiatry

Welcome to our pillar about the General population. Learn more about our projects and meet our research team. We provide excellent care while working responsible, connecting and entrepreneurial.

The General Population Research

Within this pillar, we focus on the typical and atypical development of children within the general population. This research line is embedded within Generation R and Generation R Next, cohorts that follow children and their parents since the prenatal period until age 5-6 years (Generation R Next) and up to age 18-21 years (Generation R). Through our leading role in the Behaviour & Cognition Research Group, we collected a wide range of behavioral measures, neuro-imaging, and biological measurements over the past two decades. The database of repeated measures allows for the investigation of environmental risk and resilience factors related to the emergence of mental health problems in childhood and adolescence. In the next years, Generation R is of particular interest as the participants have reached late adolescence, a critical period for the development and onset of a number of severe mental illnesses. By identifying risk profiles for mental health problems, our research provides important information for the development of (early) detection, prevention and intervention strategies.
