Technology Transfer Office (TTO) was founded in 2003 with a vision to transform innovative research into practical applications that benefit society. TTO was established with a mission to support employees of Erasmus MC in driving the next generation of innovations, with a primary focus on novel healthcare solutions improving the lives of patients.
Our passion for moving the next generation of technologies forward by bridging the gap between academia and industry has allowed us to create a team of experts and senior leaders with solid tech transfer experience, and has also contributed to Erasmus MC as a serious player in the commercial healthcare environment.
Over the years we have developed a unique project portfolio full of exciting valorization journeys and success stories. We have established long term collaborations with (bio)pharmaceutical companies, non-profit organizations, research institutions, governmental and funding authorities.
Our sense for innovation, entrepreneurial mindset, high level of integrity, responsibility and dedication drives the TTO team to deliver unique commercial solutions for high-level research that foster healthcare innovations on a world-wide scale.
Core valorization
Technology transfer or “Valorization” is the process through which research organizations, like Erasmus MC, convert their research and innovations into applicable products and services, thus creating societal, economic and scientific impact, fostering collaboration between academia, industry and other stakeholders.
Expertise/Focus Areas
- IP management: Ensure the protection, management and application of intellectual property (IP) assets of Erasmus MC.
- Licensing: Intellectual property (such as: technology, data, software, know-how, and more) are licensed to companies that have the resources to further develop a product or services to ultimately become available to the public.
- Spin-offs: Promotion of innovation culture at Erasmus MC by spin-off creation, activating entrepreneurial mindset through education, programming, networking and incubation activities to ensure a successful start of your innovation-based business.
- Building Strategic Partnerships: Creating a community that connects key partners and stakeholders to ensure economic growth, to accelerate innovation and to increase public benefit.

A brief overview of our achievements
- Erasmus MC employees reach out to TTO to valorize between 60 to 110 new ideas per year.
- Between 10 to 15 new license deals that involve Erasmus MC innovations are signed with companies per year.
- Since its conception TTO has valorized 54 products and services that have reached Dutch and/or international markets.
- Between 2 to 5 spin-off companies which hold a license for the use of Erasmus MC innovations are established per year by TTO.
- 14 companies are currently housed in Erasmus MC Incubator, offering young companies a unique combination of location with access to community, funding and programming.
- Over €20 million in business funding has been obtained in 2023 by young companies associated with Erasmus MC to transform the technology from Erasmus MC into products/services and to bring them closer to the market and patients.
