Research focus areas

  • Research in pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) focuses on questions arising from clinical practice, and comprises Identification of serious illness in children at the Emergency Department, clinical decision making and triage.
  • The Erasmus MC ENCORE expert center performs basic, translational and clinical research in the field of hereditary neuro-cognitive developmental disorders. Clinical research focuses on the natural course of e.g. Tuberous Sclerosis-TSC, Neurofibromatosis type 1-NF1, Angelman Syndrome, Fragile X syndrome-FXS and neurogenetic disorders, possible interventions and treatment, genetic determinants and patients' quality of life. Basic research aims to understand causal mechanisms and medication development.
  • Epidemiologic research in growth, development, diseases and health. The research in infectious diseases, immunity and celiac disease is embedded in a large, population-based prospective cohort study named the Generation R study.
