Real world data on advanced cSCC

The aim of this project is to collect ‘real-world’ data on advanced cSCC patients to develop a risk prediction model that predicts disease specific survival.

What we do

About our project

Nationwide prospective registry for advanced cSCC
Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is the second most common cancer in humans and its incidence is still increasing. Despite the high incidence rates, cSCC is excluded from many national cancer registries and data on follow-up is even more scarce. Several important questions remain unanswered regarding risk factors for disease recurrence, local and systemic progression and which patients could benefit from adjuvant treatment. In collaboration with the Netherlands Cancer Registry (NCR), we aim to set up a prospective nationwide registry to collect ‘real-world’ data to predict cSCC prognosis and improve guidelines for treatment and follow-up of advanced cSCC patients.

Our research focus

Data collection of advanced cSCC
Data on patient and tumor characteristics, treatment and follow-up care of advanced cSCC with longitudinal follow-up will be collected by registrars from the NCR. In order to increase the granularity of the data, linkages to other nationwide databases are being used such as the nationwide pathology registry (PALGA), the Netherlands Organ Transplant Registry (NOTR), the mortality registry from the municipial records and the cause of death registry from Statistics Netherlands. For information on pharmacy records and hospitalizations the PHARMO database network (25% coverage) can be used. We also aim to link to a national database on health insurance claims.

Prediction of advanced cSCC prognosis
Collection of ‘real-world’ data on risk factors and prognosis of advanced cSCC patients will allow us to develop an accurate and detailed risk prediction model that predicts disease specific survival.
