Our research
Nursing research makes an essential contribution to the development of evidence-based care for patients with cancer and their loved ones. Nursing research goes hand in hand with medical research.
Patients affected with cancer should receive personalized care, tailored as much as possible to their own environment. In person-centred care for people affected with cancer, it is important to relieve both physical and psychosocial symptoms. A combination of medical research and nursing research is necessary here, because empowering patients and promoting self-management are crucial parts of symptom management. The aim of the research line is that patients affected with cancer and their loved ones can function as well as possible in their own environment on all dimensions, during treatment and afterwards.
Nursing (hemato-)oncology research are in line with the medical research where possible. The main research lines are:
Signs and Symptoms of the cancer and/ or treatment
In these research line we focus on studies regarding pain and symptom management, e.g. the development and validation of symptom assessment tools, and web applications to monitor patients’ symptoms while they are at home. Additionally, we focus on all aspects of quality of life, e.g. quality of life during early clinical trials and sexuality in hematological patient. We want to understand and manage the sign and symptoms of the most common anti-cancer treatments.
Transitions in Care
In this research line, we focus on aftercare after the anticancer treatment and the experiences of subcutaneous administration of oncological medication at home.
