F. (Fred) van der Toorn, MD

Fred van der Toorn his clinical and research focus areas are pediatric laparoscopic renal surgery and hypospadias surgery. He received the Vlietstra Prize of the Dutch Urological Association for his research in complication reduction after hypospadias surgery. In 2008 he designed and started in collaboration with the Dutch pediatric urologists the multicenter ”Dutch Hypospadias Study” with the main aim to measure and possibly improve the outcomes of hypospadias surgery in The Netherlands. The publication of the validation study introducing the HOPE (Hypospadias Objective Penile Evaluation)-score is one of the most highly cited publications in the Journal of Pediatric Urology.

In 2004/2005 Fred van der Toorn passed his fellowship Pediatric Urology at Erasmus MC ­ Sophia Children’s Hospital and became a Pediatric Urology staff member in 2006.
