About I.A. (Ingrid) Szilagyi
Introduction
Ingrid Szilagyi is a PhD student in the field of osteoarthritis. She studied Biology in Cluj-Napoca, Romania and obtained her BSc degree in 2012. After that she obtained her MSc degree in Molecular Biology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Her MSc thesis was in the field of osteoporosis and was performed at the Center of Medical Genetics in Antwerp. She further specialized in Genetic Epidemiology by completing the 1-year Master of Science programme at the Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences (NIHES) in August 2017.
Since January 2018, she is working on the IFEROA research project, which stands for: "Identification of the female-specific etiology and risk groups in osteoarthritis". Within this project, she focuses on sex differences in the field of osteoarthritis and, more specifically, she aims to reveal the female-specific pathways that lead to a higher incidence of knee osteoarthritis in women after the age of 50. On this note, she was one of the recipients of the ZonMw Gender in Research fellowships and got the opportunity to attend the Erasmus Summer Program 2019 on Sex and Gender in Health and Research in Rotterdam.
