About L. (Laura) Mezzanotte, PhD
Introduction
Background
Laura Mezzanotte obtained her master degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and her phD in Pharmaceutical sciences from University of Bologna in 2007 and 2011 respectively. Her PhD research had a strong focus on molecular imaging for drug discovery and development.
During her post-doc in Leiden University medical center (2011-2015) she continued to apply optical imaging and MRI for cancer immunotherapy and stem cell research.
She joined the department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine in May 2015 as assistant porfessor and she was promoted to associate professor in 2021.
Research Interests
As PI of the genetic engineering and multimodality imaging research line Laura explores and develops new reporter genes for multimodality imaging (optical, optoacoustic, nuclear and MRI imaging) but also design and develops novel imaging tools for cancer immunotherapy studies and image guided-surgery.
The group is primary focused on developing methods to image immune cells in vivo in the context of cancer, to develop and tranlasate probes for fluorescence image-guided surgery and to validate theranostic approaches for joint iamging diagnostic and Photodynamic therapy.
