About A.M. Kamperman PhD
Introduction
Dr. Astrid Kamperman, assistant professor, has over ten years of working experience as a quantitative researcher at the department of Psychiatry at Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Over the years she has been an author of over 50 peer reviewed papers and chapters. As a psychologist and epidemiologist, her experience is centered around the methods and statistics often used in psychiatric epidemiology and clinical psychiatry.
Recently, she added machine learning techniques and big data research to her interests. She applies her skills on topics related to women’s mental health and persons with severe psychiatric disorders. She loves to find the sweet spot between valid methodology and clinically relevant research questions.

Education and career
Astrid Kamperman conducted her PhD research on the prevalence and phenomenology of mental illness in ethnic minorities residing in the Netherlands at the VU university in Amsterdam. She followed up with a post-doc position at the Amsterdam Medical Center, focusing on mental health interventions for refugees and asylum seekers with severe PTSD symptomatology.
Her work at the Erasmus Medical Center focuses on the hurdles that persons with severe mental illness face in life and during treatment, interventions aimed at recovery, and preventing negative treatment outcomes. Additionally, she focuses on the specifics of women's mental health and service provision.

Teaching activities
She teaches design and methodology related subjects to medical students and residents in psychiatry.
Additionally, she supervises PHD theses, as well as MSc and BA-level-theses, on a range of social psychiatric topics, and topics related to women's mental health.
