About A.J. (Alex) Eggink, PhD
Introduction
I am a maternal fetal medicine specialist and head of the division of Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. I have special interest in prenatal diagnosis and fetal therapy and development of technological innovations in birthcare to improve maternal, fetal and neonatal health.
Field(s) of expertise
In daily practice I take care of pregnant women with pregnancies complicated by severe maternal disease or congenital anomalies or fetal disorders such as fetal growth restriction. I have special expertise in complicated monochorionic twin pregnancies, children born with spina bifida or congenital diaphragmatic hernia.

Resident in training for Obstetrics and Gynecology, Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
PhD Thesis: Fetal therapy for spina bifida in a sheep model using tissue engineering.
Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist since 2005.
Teaching activities
- Educational activities at Medical School Erasmus University Rotterdam and Hogeschool Rotterdam.
- Currently co-promotor of 5 PhD researchers.
