Dr. T.C. (Timo) Bolt

Dr. T.C. (Timo) Bolt is a Dutch historian of science and medicine. He studied history and History and Philosophy of Science at Utrecht University, where he subsequently worked as a historian of psychiatry (2007-2010). Between 2010 and 2015, Bolt did PhD-research on evidence based-medicine at the University Medical Centre Utrecht. Since 2015, Bolt works as at the Erasmus MC, first as assistant professor and since 2017 as associate professor and head of medical history. His research focusses on the modern and contemporary history of medical science and technology, concepts of health and disease, public health and mental health care.

Bolt teaches medical history in the broadest sense at the Erasmus MC and the UMCG in Groningen. He has been / is involved in the setting up of new and innovative education programs on academic skills, scientific integrity, diversity and inclusivity and pandemics and other public health crises.

Bolt received the Gerrit-Arie Lindeboom Award in 2019, for his dissertation 'A Doctor’s Order: the Dutch Case of Evidence-Based Medicine (1970-2015)' ánd his contributions to medical history in general.

Bolt and co-author Leonine de Goei won the Martinus J. Langeveld Award in 2009 (award for the best book on the themes of child development and education) for their book ‘Kinderen van hun tijd’.
