What we do
About our project
With the increasing number of people participating in running, the number of running injuries also increased. However, no effective prevention strategies have been identified yet. Therefore, we designed the SPRINT-study, in which the effectiveness of an online injury prevention program is studied.
Hypothesis
We hypothesize that the online injury prevention program will reduce the number of injuries in recreational runners.
Methods
3394 runners who sign up for a Golazo Sports running event are asked to participate in the SPRINT-study. Participants are randomly allocated to the intervention group, who will get access to an online injury prevention program during the preparation for the running event, or control group. The online prevention program offers 10 concrete and directing advices towards runners and will be available on a website and mobile application. The effectiveness of the program will be evaluated by 3 follow-up questionnaires around the running event, in which the occurrence of injuries is registered. Statistical analysis will be based on the intention-to-treat principle.
Our research focus
The primary outcome measure of the SPRINT study is the difference in injury proportion between the intervention and control group in the time period between the registration for the SPRINT study and one month after the running event registered for.
Secondary outcome
Secondary outcome measures include the difference in severity score of running injuries (range 0-100), calculated on the basis of the four questions of the OSTRC Overuse injury Questionnaire between runners in the intervention and control group and the difference in injury proportion in runners with previous injuries in the intervention and control group. Other secondary outcome measures are the difference of RRI locations between the intervention and control group and the responsiveness (percentage responders on implementation).
