Research group/lab

An abnormal vertebral pattern in relation to the fetal prognosis.

This study focuses on the feasibility and added value of the prenatal assessment of the number of vertebrae and ribs with 3-dimensional ultrasound.

About our research group/lab

Our research

About

Erasmus MC is the perfect environment to study this, as many cases of congenital anomalies are prenatally detected in this university hospital. Furthermore, appropriate equipment is available, like 3D-ultrasonography, I-space and several different laboratory facilities.

Overall aim

To establish whether there is a relation between abnormal vertebral and/or rib number and structural congenital malformations, fetal aneuploidy or other genetic abnormalities and premature delivery.

What type of research do you focus on in this group?

Prospective and retrospective cohort studies.

Our projects

  • An abnormal vertebral pattern and fetal prognosis (Dutch acronym: WREP)
