Cover and insurance
Not all treatment and examinations are covered by all health insurers. We therefore always recommend that you check your health insurance policy before your visit to the hospital to confirm whether your health insurer has a contract with Erasmus MC and whether your care costs will be covered. If you are unsure, always contact your health insurer. If a medical specialist refers you to another care provider, the medical care you receive will not always be fully or partly reimbursed. This applies to every new healthcare need.

Do you have a letter of referral?
Hospital treatment is covered by your health insurance policy only if you have a letter of referral from your GP or specialist. In certain cases, your GP or specialist will send the letter directly to the hospital. You should then check whether the hospital has received the letter.
You will need a separate letter of referral for each individual healthcare request. If you have already been treated and need to go back to hospital later on for something else, you will need to obtain a new letter of referral.
You do not need a letter of referral for emergency care.
